The Ybbstal Alps (German: Ybbstaler Alpen) are located in the federal states of Lower Austria, Styria and Upper Austria between the Hochschwab and the Danube River. It is a large mountain range that is divided into several separate units. The largest part is called the Eisenwürzen with the highest mountain, the Hochdreizipf at 1 466 m above sea level. It is mainly a forested mountain range. The opposite is the neighbouring Göstlinger Alpen.
Here are the famous rocky peaks Dürenstein 1 878 m above sea level and Hochkar 1 808 m above sea level. Another mountain group is called the Tormäuer. Here lies the dominant peak of Grosser Ötscher 1 893 m above sea level and the rocky gorges of Ötschgraben. The highest peak in the whole of the Ybbstalian Alps lies in the Kräuterin massif.
