Paid parking at the approach to Lago di Fusine Inferioere. Parking costs 5 Euro/day.
We have been planning a trip to these lakes for a long time, but last year, for example, a music festival interrupted our trip. It is regularly held here every summer and access to the lakes is forbidden during the festival. This year, however, everything was without problems and so after paying 5 Euro we arrived in the afternoon at Lago di Fusine Inferiore. It was crowded with cars and people, and a storm was approaching. None of this spoiled our mood, however, and we headed for the lakes.
Right from the start, the bridge over the stream below the first lake was a slight problem. So we had to cross the creek and join the trail on the other side of the creek. After that it was a relaxing hike. We passed a pub on the shore of the lake. After that, the trail profile changed a lot and we continued on a forest path full of rocks and roots. All the time there are beautiful views of the lake and the massif of Mangart Mountain. Along the trail we bypassed Lago di Fusine Inferiore. There was a single gentle climb to the second lake, Lago di Fusine Superiore. The view from its shore is even more beautiful than from the first lake. Once again we bypassed the lake on a path full of rocks and roots. By then, the storm over the mountains had already started to approach us. So we didn't wait for anything and walked along the shore of the lake back to the car in the parking lot. Fortunately, the main onslaught of the storm was stopped by Mangart, so we enjoyed the whole trip.
A beautiful and simple trip that won't take too much time. The elevation gain is really minimal, so the route is suitable for everyone. Surprisingly, the terrain is not entirely easy. There is a trail that goes around the shores of the lakes, but it is quite rocky and mostly full of roots. So it's good to be careful where you step. A stroller won't make it.
There are several refreshment places around the lake, so it's not even necessary to take a large supply of water with you.
There is no peak on the route, however the views from the lakes to Mount Mangart are really fantastic.
This is a simple trip. Most of the route is in the forest along a trail. The trail is full of roots and rocks, so you have to look underfoot. Otherwise, the trail is safe, ideal for families with children.
On the shores of Lago di Fusine Inferiore there are at least two taverns where you can eat.
