The Totes Gebirge are located on the border of the federal states of Styria and Upper Austria. It is a limestone plateau, high above the surrounding area, from which beautiful rocky peaks rise. The mountains are divided into three groups. The highest mountain of the Grosser Priel 2 515 m above sea level can be found together with other beautiful peaks in the Priel Group.
There are several beautiful lakes in the mountain range, but otherwise the mountain range is very poor in water, especially in the highest parts. That is why it was named Totes Gebirge.
