The Rottenmann Tauern (German: Rottenmanner Tauern) is a beautiful grassy ridge that, with one exception, does not drop below 2,000 m. The rockier part of the range is around the highest mountain, Grosser Bössenstein, which is located in the northern part of the range.
The Wölzer Tauern (German: Wölzer Tauern) is also largely grassy, but there are also some beautiful rocky peaks. The highest mountain, Rettelkirchspitze 2 475 m above sea level, lies in the south-eastern part of the mountain range. The Wölz Tauern are rich in water resources - lakes and streams.
