The Ötztal Alps (German: Ötztaler Alpen) are the second highest mountain range in Austria. It is also the second highest mountain in Austria, the Wildspitze 3,770 m above sea level. This mountain, however, does not lie in the main Hauptkamm, but in the northern range of the Hauptkamm. The entire mountain range is heavily covered with glaciers. The largest glacier in the Eastern Alps, the Gepatschferner, can be found here.
The mountain range is very well connected by infrastructure, which of course leads to its popularity among skiers. This is why there are a large number of ski resorts, which partly spoil the natural beauty of the mountains. An important hiking resort in the mountains is Vent, from which it is possible to climb several 3,000-foot peaks in the area.
