Parking lot in the upper part of the Mohelno Hadec Steppe on the edge of Mohelna. We didn't pay anything for parking.
We arrived at the parking lot above the steppe a little after lunch and the parking space was full. (on our return the parking lot was completely full). Since the parking lot is at the top of the steppe, the view of the steppe itself and the Dukovany nuclear power plant, which is located on the other bank of the Jihlava River, opens up right at the beginning. We started descending to the river valley along the nature trail. We saw several beautiful green lizards on the rocks. After a steeper descent we found ourselves in a completely different landscape. The valley of the Jihlava River is truly magical. Compared to the arid looking steppe there is green colour everywhere and the air by the river is pleasant. That is why we took a short rest here.
Then we continued along the trail along the bank to the Mohelen mill. From there, the climb back to the upper levels of the Mohellen steppe begins. The path was made more pleasant by a small cave. In the upper part of the steppe we crossed over to a wooden lookout. By then we were already surrounded by tourists. From the viewpoint we went back to the car in the already crowded parking lot.
A short trip to an interesting landscape. There is an easier descent to the river on the trail, which is in rocky terrain, but not too steep. On the other hand, the ascent is gradual on a wide path. The route is ideal for families or as a hike with a dog. A stroller will not pass the route.
The route is short, you just need some of your own fluids. The pubs are in the village of Mohelno.
The route does not go over any peak. The view offers the upper part of the Mohelen steppe.
The route is very simple and safe. There are a few passages that lead in rocky terrain, but it is not technically demanding.
The route is very short, just bring a small snack. Pubs with food are in the village of Mohelno.
The Mohelno Hadec steppe got its name from the rock Hadec, which forms the bedrock of the steppe. Thanks to this, there is a variety of fauna and flora. This is why the area was declared a protected area in 1933. The steppe is considerably drier and warmer than the surrounding area due to the winds and sunlight that affect the steppe. In summer, the temperature of the rocks is up to 25 degrees warmer than the surrounding air.
