Drahanská vrchovina is located northeast of Brno between Vyškov - Prostějov - Drahany. The Drahanská vrchovina is part of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands hold most of the precipitation for the Drahanská vrchovina. As a result, the Drahanská vrchovina is very poor in surface water resources and groundwater reserves.
In the rich forest cover we find the most spruces, pines, oaks and beeches. Almost half of the Drahanská vrchovina (the northern part) is the Březina military district, founded in 1951. The military retreat (formerly the "Dědice Military Training Area") was created here already during the First Republic in 1936 in response to the growing horror of Nazi Germany.
