The Dolomites are considered one of the natural wonders of the world. They are located in the north of Italy. The entire mountain range is made up of many smaller groups. There is no continuous ridge. The highest mountain is the Marmolada 3 343 m above sea level. Here we also find the largest glacier in the Dolomites. The individual groups are made up of high rock peaks that drop deep into the valley.
There is a well-developed infrastructure throughout the mountain range. There are road saddles even at altitudes of over 2000 m. There are also a large number of cable cars, so the tourist traffic is very strong in winter and summer. The Dolomites are also famous for their ferattas. Originally military trails dating back to World War I, they now serve as attractive sheltered paths. The high rock walls are also a paradise for climbers. The town of Cortina d'Ampezzo is said to be the centre of the Dolomites.
