The Capatini Mountains (Munții Căpățânii in Romanian) form a ridge about 70 kilometres long. In the north, the mountains drop steeply into the Lotru River valley. The southern slopes are longer and more gentle. The highest peaks are in the western part of the mountain range.
The latter is also rockier. As the mountain is largely grassy, the slopes are used for sheep grazing. They also have a natural source of water on the ridges, where there are small lakes.
